Stories and Testimonials
Our Interns
Ms. Weijia Chen
My name is Weijia Chen. I am from China and working on a double major in International Studies and Global Korean Studies at Ewha Womans University in ROK. It is a great honor for me to be an intern of YSLME project to experience Korean office culture and system of organizations with the UN structure. YSLME project involves cooperation among countries, mainly PRC and ROK. Working in YSLME can help me better understand international relations because of the special status of the UNOPS independent from governments. In addition, it is an excellent chance for me to work in marine and ecosystem field for sustainable development. The opportunity in YSLME will definitely expand my horizons and become one of the most unforgettable experience. I am really looking forward to my joining of the YSLME project as a communication intern.
Ms. Yifei Li
I am Yifei Li from Qingdao, Province of Shandong, who just got the bachelor degree in Spanish Philology in the summer of 2018. It’s my pleasure and great opportunity to become the intern of the YSLME Phase II Project Management Office. As I was grown up in a coastal city along the Yellow Sea, I’m looking forward to being involved in the project of marine conservation and marine ecosystem protection which is closely related to me. In this case, I joined the WMO/WCRP/ ICGPO (International CLIVAR Project Office) in the summer of 2017 after my one-year study in Spain. It was not easy for me as an undergraduate at the university and I found that I’d like to learn more diverse knowledge and participate more in varieties of activities in a real international workplace. As a consequence, here I come and it will be one of the first steps and a great motivation for my further study in Master’s degree in the relevant career. I’m convinced that this internship will be an undoubtedly memorable experience.
Intern Alumni
Ms. Nera Mariz Puyo, Communication Intern
My six months of working at the YSLME Phase II Project Management Office have been nothing short of a humbling experience. As a communication intern, my tasks were to produce contents and manage the Project’s website, prepare meeting documents, coordinate with stakeholders, and write communication materials, among others. My duties were diverse and along the way, I got to learn more about areas in marine environment and biodiversity. Furthermore, this internship afforded me an opportunity to get first-hand experience in the United Nations where I got to meet and learn from experts. What I love about working in the PMO is that the staff guide us, interns, on what to do and at the same time give us creative freedom, fostering skills in working independently and discovering more of our potentials. It has been an honor working with such a passionate team. Although my contract has ended already, I will continue to be an ambassador of YSLME and its initiatives.
